The Power of Passion and Perseverance
Getting out of someone’s comfort zone and trying something new is one of the most difficult things people can do. Imagine how hard it is to fail and be expected to try again and more than once. It is hard to get up from falling on the ground. However, when there is a dream at the end of the road, then getting up and walking again is a must. This is where people begin to be different from each other, in which some just decide that falling is the end of the road for them, while others know it is just the beginning. Reaching the end of the tunnel is not about being smart enough to finish nor is it about being physically strong. It is about having grit. Being able to fall down more than once, yet get up again to make the dream a reality. Grit, according to Angela Duckorth, “is sticking with your future, day in, day out, not just for the week, not just for the month, but for years, and working really hard to make that future a reality.” Thus, it is about being resilient for the long term to reach your goals. It is about accepting the fact that perfection doesn’t exist. You can’t walk through life without struggling or stumbling. It is about knowing and accepting that you are strong enough to go through them. In addition, strong physical health and being smart won’t get a person far. It is about working and putting in the effort. As Duckworth has mentioned, “Talent is not all there is to achievement.” Hence, it is not about laying around waiting for someone’s talent to get them far, it is about working with the talent to reach a brighter future.
Along with many people, I felt that Angela Duckworth’s TedTalk was very inspiring and to me, it felt that it was meant to be watched at the perfect time. Lately, I have been feeling down and like I have been failing at many things. However, this talk has made me realize many things. I realized that failing is all part of the process of reaching my goal and that I should have grit. As I was watching the TedTalk, I remember I was so close to just giving up, yet it reminded me that I have been standing up after falling multiple times, and now is not the time to stop walking, yet it is the time to start walking harder and faster. Thus, I encourage many people to find a dream that is completely worth falling and standing up everyday for it.
I agree with your explanation and interpretation of what Duckworth has mentioned. It makes a lot of sense as people learn by failing and learning through their mistakes.
